What might be preventing my PC from displaying graphics?
Initial message thanks to anyone who can assist. I purchase and repair old PCs for affordable gaming. I've encountered a problem with two different mobos—one Dell and one Lenovo. They use integrated graphics or PCIe display adapters, which ensures compatibility with CPU, RAM, and motherboard. I've tested the power supply on similar models and it's working fine. However, when connecting a better GPU like an RX 580 (which functions properly), no display appears. The machine might not be showing anything at all, even with fans spinning. I'm struggling to find any guidance and would appreciate your help.
How old are these boards? Apparently, Amd stopped providing legacy support for the Rx 5 series, and if neither board has an EFI option, you won't see a display from it. Check for any BIOS updates, though—it can be tough since they're OEM products, which usually limits future upgrades.
4th gen should support UEFI, check if the motherboard offers this via igpu; it may be configured as legacy. If it's already set to legacy, you'll likely need to reinstall Windows after switching to UEFI. If it functions correctly, the BIOS should appear on the 580.
