What methods are available to evaluate graphics cards and SSD drives?
While playing a game, I encountered an unexpected shutdown, the screen froze and it appears many unrelated programs were also impacted. Logging in was difficult, and even after successful login, the connection felt unstable. If my computer were a person, I’d think its blood pressure had plummeted dangerously. I ran a speed test, but my results were normal. I suspect a hardware problem—possibly an SSD failure or graphics card issue—but I’m unsure. I’m not sure how to check these things without spending money. I haven’t found any helpful information online. The two attempts I made only returned confusing numbers without a clear diagnosis. Thanks in advance.
Cpu / gpu temperature - Core Temp / Gpuz. Monitoring for thermal throttling during intensive tasks.
Background processes and applications - Open Task Manager, sort by highest to lowest to detect resource hogs. Right-click suspicious items to view details. Examine startup entries and eliminate suspects one by one. Run Malwarebytes.
SSD health checked using CrystalDiskInfo. Overfilled SSDs can reduce performance; aim for at least 100gb free space, though this may not suffice depending on RAM and pagefile usage. Using a larger pagefile can provide additional support.
The standard initial check is performed.
It is common to list all system specifications, including PSU model and age.
Just completed Alienware Support Assist. It reported an issue with my Ethernet card. Now it makes sense. After doing a speed test, I noticed it only showed the data being sent by the IP, not what I was getting. The SSD and graphics cards passed, as did everything else. Since Ethernet cards are inexpensive, I ordered a replacement. I’m curious if I’ll see a burn mark during the swap. We’ll find out. Thanks!
You received something in exchange, likely a PCIe slot, possibly the standard 1x PCIe port, which is commonly found on motherboards.
