Hello everyone!
I recently purchased a new laptop running Windows 11. Of course, it comes with a lot of challenges.
I’d like to configure it using a local account instead of a Microsoft account. As you’re aware, Microsoft doesn’t make this straightforward, but the internet offers plenty of tips—like pressing Shift-F10 or Shift-Fn-F10 to jump to the command prompt during setup, and then following further guidance for setting up with a local account.
My issue is clear: pressing Shift-F10 or Shift-Fn-F10 doesn’t open the command prompt as I expect. It seems this method works no matter where I try it or whether I’m connected to the internet. How can the internet be so misleading?

First, I need to figure out how to access the CMD prompt during Windows 11 setup so I can complete the setup with a local account. I understand that using Shift-Fn-F10 doesn’t seem to work, but I’m not sure if it’s the right approach.

Second, if this doesn’t help, can I set up Windows 11 with a Microsoft account I created (since Microsoft seems to insist on that option), and then delete that account right away to replace it with a local one? I think this might be my only option, so any specific advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Begin with the initial configuration and activation using the MS account.
Next, create a Local Admin user account, and avoid using the MS account thereafter.
Do not terminate the system...just refrain from accessing it.

Thanks! As you mentioned, I intend to set up using a Microsoft Account and then switch to local afterward; I’ll look into this process tomorrow. I’m wondering if using a Microsoft Account for Windows 11 requires an active internet connection to log in. So if there’s no internet, the computer wouldn’t work. Can that be correct?

True if you connect using a Microsoft account. Local accounts are possible even without internet access.

Launch the system using the MS account.
Next...
Settings, Accounts...
Set up a Local Admin account. This will serve your admin privileges as required.
After that, establish a Local Standard account. This is the account for regular daily tasks.
