What level of complexity in the flight stick is required for comfortable play?
Currently I own one of these devices. Although it looked reasonable during my last setup attempt, there were numerous keybindings that were hard to decide which were essential and which were optional. It also seemed that many keyboard shortcuts didn't function properly when the stick was active, possibly due to a version limitation. I originally purchased this for Elite mode, but it performs well in that setting. I'm unsure if it will transfer smoothly here, which might mean I'll have to rely on the KB/M route for an extended period.
Having two axes plus a fire button seems sufficient; the rest are just extras. I own the full Warthog HOTAS, but it still lacks enough buttons to cover everything—let alone remembering all 56. For your joystick setup: Trigger – Firegroup 1 & 2 Middle button – Countermeasure Right button – Missiles Hat down – Cycle countermeasures Hat up – Reticle focus Hat left – Cycle all targets Hat right – Cycle hostile targets and use your keyboard for the rest. As for your keyboard, I haven’t faced that issue before, but the PS3 seems outdated and the PS3 driver could be the problem. If you keep having issues with version 3.0, look up others’ experiences and solutions online.
Thanks! I’ll look into whether there are newer drivers available. Regarding your question, the directional controls for the small device next to the center button are indeed labeled in a similar way.
