Hi everyone,
I’m trying to buy my first KVM switch but after some research I’m still unsure about the right type for my needs. Here’s what I’m considering:

- Three monitors in total (one via DP and two via HDMI)
- My main gaming monitor is 4K, so I need a switch that supports at least 120Hz at 4K (preferably 144Hz)
- Both my work and gaming setups use Windows 10
- I currently have a Dell DisplayLink 3100 for my work setup
- My work laptop only has one DHMI port (no DisplayPort), but the docking station has a single DisplayPort outlet

Questions:
1) Would you recommend a switch with EDID technology so I don’t have to reconfigure or change display settings each time? Or would that mean I’d have to adjust resolutions?
2) I’m thinking about triple monitor switches, which are costly but support multiple DP monitors. Do I really need them if two of my monitors can connect via HDMI?
3) There’s a concern that even high-end KVM switches might struggle with power when running modern gaming gear. Is that accurate?
4) Some triple monitor switches mention needing three DP outputs per computer, but I’m not sure how that works. Does each computer require three DP ports in the switch?

Thanks for any advice!

The KVM cabling and switch need to meet specifications, including HDMI 2.x or DP 1.x for the vertical refresh rate on all displays. The rest seems to align with a well-prepared plan.
