You should use a GPT partition for Windows 8.1. The MBR is typically reserved for BIOS setup and not needed for the operating system.

Generally, you can work with either MBR or GPT. You should use GPT when installing Windows on a Mac or when you require a partition larger than 2TB. MBR is suitable for older systems, while GPT is necessary for UEFI-based computers.

Since your motherboard allows UEFI BIOS, it's recommended to use a GPT partition for better system management.
