What kind of computer should I purchase?
What kind of computer should I purchase?
My 7-year-old is keen on PC gaming, especially Minecraft Java edition so he can play pixelmon (which is a MOD). I’m not very familiar with computers except browsing the internet and sending emails. I checked the minimum and recommended specs for Minecraft but they seem confusing. Could someone recommend a budget-friendly PC to get him started without spending much? Thanks in advance!
Review the PCPP build guides, the beginner kits are located roughly halfway through the page – they offer useful suggestions on component choices. In my opinion, the best time to purchase any AMD die with a console release is unlikely, given the high demand this year and the recent surge in Bitcoin that’s reducing GPU availability. I’m planning to wait until Easter sales for restocking. If you need to buy or build now, the "Entry Level Intel Gaming Build" includes an i3-10100 (4c/8t) CPU, 16GB RAM, an SSD, and a GTX1650 Super for just over $600 – ideal for someone on a tighter budget without breaking the bank. Unfortunately, with the current pricing, it’s similar to the AMD 2600 which offered 6 cores/12 threads for the same price.
As long as the system meets these requirements:
CPU:
Intel Core i3, i5, or i7, ideally an "8th gen" or newer
AMD Ryzen 3, 5, or 7, preferably a "2nd Gen" or newer
RAM:
At least 8GB is acceptable, but 16GB would be ideal
Video card:
NVIDIA GeForce 16 or later series
AMD Radeon RX 570/RX580 or equivalent from the RX 5000 series
Storage:
An SSD is recommended
These specifications should adequately cover your needs.
Review the PCPP build guides, the beginner kits are positioned near the bottom of the page – they offer useful suggestions on component choices. In my opinion, the best time to purchase any AMD die with a console release is limited, due to high demand this year and the recent surge in Bitcoin that’s reducing GPU availability. I’m planning to wait until Easter sales to check if restocks have occurred. If you need to buy or build right now, the "Entry Level Intel Gaming Build" provides an i3-10100 (4c/8t) CPU with 16GB RAM, an SSD, and a GTX1650 Super for just over $600, making it ideal for someone on a budget without breaking the bank. Unfortunately, given the current pricing, it’s similar to the AMD 2600 which offered 6c/12t for the same cost earlier this year.
The "Entry Level AMD Gaming Build" is marginally more costly, around $700, and offers a slightly longer lifespan with 6c/12t for a small extra, so I’d suggest choosing it over the 4c/8t despite the higher seasonal price for better durability.
