Hi, I have a laptop
MSI Raider
i7 8750h six core
RTX 2080 180W 8gb
2x ssd samsung evo 970 2tb
32gb ram
Windows 11
I tried a new game on Steam
Name is Schedule 1
System Requirements
Minimum:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Processor: 3GHz 4-Core or similar
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580
Storage: 8 GB available space
Recommended:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
Processor: 3.5GHz 6-Core or similar
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6700
Storage: 8 GB available space
In this game I get 50-60 fps max
Low details – 50-60fps
Ultra details – 50-60fps
What’s wrong?
In Hunt Showdown the same fps on low and ultra, I can’t reach 100fps lol
I cleaned the laptop coolers, applied new thermal paste, updated all drivers... still same fps on low and ultra settings in games 😒
But the RTX 2080 is similar to GTX 1060 or 4060, and the game needs at least GTX 1060 as minimum
Thanks

Maintaining the same FPS with low and ultra graphics settings usually indicates a CPU bottleneck. The i7 8750h is an older chip, and thermal throttling might occur because it's a laptop. Keep an eye on your CPU temperature and use HWInfo to confirm if throttling happens. Check your GPU usage too—if it stays below 95%, it’s not being used fully, so another factor could be limiting performance.

Also, consider whether you’re viewing the game on the laptop screen or an external monitor. What is the display’s refresh rate? A 60 Hz rate would be typical. Make sure a FPS limiter isn’t active.

I believe there might be a driver or temperature problem, unless V-sync is enabled.

Hi, the 144hz laptop with VSync off shows CPU temperatures between 94-99°C after cleaning and applying new thermal paste. Previously, similar temperatures were achieved without the same paste, but now they remain consistently high even after thorough cleaning.

It seems the CPU is hitting its maximum temperature and reducing performance to avoid damage (thermal throttling). This is typical because laptops lack the cooling power of desktops. Have you checked if the fans are running smoothly without any grinding sounds? Do you place the laptop on a raised surface and keep it flat? You might also consider using a laptop cooling pad. I used one a few years ago for an overheating laptop, and it helped a lot.
