The applications I use perform well with multiple cores. Check your non-gaming programs to see if they could gain from double the processing power.
They definitely gain from having more cores, though the chips might not offer the same FPS in games—like about 15 less—but over three years I’d be glad of those gains. I’m sure I’m being too hard on myself.
