A RAM in a socket is actually bigger than surface-mounted RAM.
The same goes for the CPU/SSD and other components.
That's how things are.
Hurrah and huzzah! Insurance is covering £1500, which gives me my budget for a fresh laptop! I'm trying to recover the old one since the screen still functions, which might let me keep the touchscreen or pen input for photography—so it's not as important in a new device. Hope isn't too high, but... Who knows! Any other gadgets accept surface pen input for details?
For what it's worth, I'm going to give this a shot... It seems to cover most of my needs, though not as upgrade-friendly as I'd like and it's a bit more compact. Still, I'll see how it goes! More than the basic guide, but significantly less than what's advertised here, with far higher specs than similar models and a much better price-to-performance ratio compared to my original recommendation.
