Currently I'm using the HyperX Cloud Alpha Headset/Mic and it seems like I've faced issues for a year. I'm not sure if placing it on top of my Oculus Rift S is causing any cable problems in the headstrap, or if the issue lies elsewhere. My audio is fine, but the microphone volume sometimes drops significantly. I'm trying something different.

Hello!
You have to tell us your budget first.
For what do you need the headset mainly? Gaming? Music? Streaming? Most of the headphones that are great at all of those things are quite expensive.
For example my headset is good for gaming but there is room for improvement, the best one I owned for music, but the microphone sound is very bad considering the price of the headset, some of the way cheaper headsets I owned had much better microphone.
However you mentioned that you would use it with VR, not many people can suggest you the exact headset.

Just under $150 to $200 USD. Will be using it for gaming with friends, streaming, and listening to music.

Just asking if the Wired headset is essential, and whether wireless options that work with wired connections are an option.

Hello. It's really tough for me to suggest anything other than these options.
Amazon link
for just 30$ more than your budget, save up those 30$ and you won't regret it. I own them and in my opinion, these are the top overall GAMING headset you can buy at this price. The second best 360 audio I've heard while gaming is a pair of headphones priced around 550$.
I was planning to write you a detailed review, but there are many on Forums and YouTube from people who will craft words better than I can.
Edit: these are wired. Hope this helps
Important: check the size because you mentioned you have a larger head; they fit well for me but may not suit everyone.
