Searching for reliable routers in the $100 to $200 range with strong security features. A solid option under $100 would be the TP-Link AR800 or similar budget models offering good Wi-Fi performance and basic protection.

One that is powered off and stored in the box makes it difficult for hackers to access unless it’s activated. Most routers come with similar "security" options. You really don’t need to invest more than $100 on a router unless you’re aiming for wide coverage, then a multi-device setup might be smarter.

You've got a solid selection. The best choice depends on your needs—whether speed, ease of use, or features matter most. The NETGEAR Nighthawk is great for simplicity and strong performance, while the ASUS RT-AC66U offers solid dual-band capabilities. If you're new to routers, the TP-Link AC4000 is user-friendly and reliable. Pick based on your priorities!

I own the downgrade model from Netgear Nighthawk. It works well, I can suggest it. However, if your walls are made of concrete like mine, the signal drops after just two blocks before it fails. For top home Wi-Fi performance without breaking the bank, consider these options: the Ubiquiti Networks 802-11ac Dual Radio UAP AC Pro is available on Amazon, and there are many similar choices you might find useful.

I suggest Netgear R6700 (link provided) and if you prefer not to purchase Netgear or it's out of stock nearby, consider ASUS RT-ACRH17 or ASUS RT-ACRH13. Other options include D-Link DIR-842.

Standard home routers offer solid protection. For greater management, consider a firewall device such as pfSense or Untangle. What specific protection are you seeking? By "connectivity" do you mean the number of ports or wireless options?

Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X offers strong capabilities with an extensive CLI interface; lacks a built-in Wi-Fi access point. MikroTik hEX S provides RouterOS functionality without a wireless AP. MikroTik hAP A C shares the same OS but adds a Wi-Fi 5-enabled access point. Netgate SG-1100 runs pfSense firewall and includes a Wi-Fi 5 AP. Synology RT2600AC combines router and AP features, delivering better performance than typical consumer models with WiFi 5, 4x4 MU-MIMO, and a customizable package manager.
