You need to turn it off to allow smoother performance above 30 fps. Removing it will cause lag or stutter when the frame rate exceeds that threshold.

It looks like turning off HPET isn't recommended. When it's enabled, War Thunder becomes extremely difficult to play, described as a frustrating experience. Interestingly, the CPU load tends to be significantly higher when HPET is active compared to when it's disabled.

You share the same CPU, but using an R9 390 works just fine. The issue might be with your 780Ti model.

It’s one central processing unit running at full capacity, causing extremely low frame rates. Usually the GPU utilization stays below 50% thanks to this situation.

Check if the game is single-core optimized or fully locked.

The game can utilize all the cores, yet it only activates the first core on both my desktop and laptop. This wasn’t an issue a year ago, but now it’s getting worse, making me waste most of the match at 30-40 FPS, which looks bad when paired with my monitor.

It's quite unusual, actually.

The issue with HPET stems largely from how the motherboard is built. Many instances have shown significant performance issues tied to this chipset. It can appear as a high DPC sometimes, other times not at all. Typically, manufacturers fix these after release, and newer BIOS/software updates resolve the faults. However, it's often unresolved, leaving users with limited options—often forcing them to disable the chipset since dependent programs face major difficulties. I hope things were different back then; during the Z77 era, HPET caused a lot of trouble, especially on my original Asus board for the X79, whereas the Asrock version worked well from the start.

The latest updates for the sabertooth z77 came in late 2013. Until now, nothing has changed since HPET was removed, though I’m worried a frequently used tool might stop working...
