What is anisotropic filtering?
This adjustment lets you lower it from the top while keeping quality intact.
This might simply reflect my own view, but it seems to have been quite some time since I experienced noticeable effects from 16x anisotropic filtering on a game's frame rate. Even if the visual changes are small, I find it hard to imagine a situation where you'd reduce it with today’s modern discrete video card. I've noticed some games with relatively weak texture filtering, so I usually keep 16x AF enabled worldwide in my Nvidia driver. I haven't encountered any issues, and there have been a few instances where it actually helped improve performance.
Some titles show better outcomes when enabling Autofocus in-game rather than relying on driver settings. For instance, GTA V's 16x AF appears closer to 4x AF in my view. Applying 16x AF for GTA V via NVCP significantly enhances texture quality compared to default options. In general, AF adjustments usually require minimal effort to reach maximum performance. Interestingly, Rainbow Six Siege maintains solid performance with 16x AF.
