Hey everyone, my friend asked what upgrade to prioritize first, and honestly I’m really unsure. I’ve never upgraded just one component, so I mostly upgrade the whole PC. Here are his details: CPU is an i3 10100f, GPU is GTX 1650, RAM is 48gb. I don’t know about other specs, he didn’t mention them. Thanks in advance!

I think the CPU is the way to go. The I3 model seems quite limited, and improving the processor could boost performance significantly. Currently, many games require a lot from the CPU, making an upgrade essential.

Understanding the motherboard and the precise PSU is quite important. Likewise, knowing his usage with the PC and what he feels is missing in terms of features is essential. The budget is also a factor. I would ask him more details, as it's challenging to offer a solid recommendation without enough information. This essentially covers three main points.

He sent me the whole PC.
He has two different kits, but he's using the 2x8gb one.

What issues exist with this construction? Why is an upgrade necessary? What is the required budget for upgrading?

He mentioned using it mainly for gaming; his current PC is sufficient for school and office tasks, but gaming performance is slowing down. He estimated the cost at around 10,000 CZK, which is about 400 euros. The issue is that he no longer gets enough frames per second, even though he has a 144 Hz monitor.

Consider replacing the graphics card with an RX 6700XT or RTX 4060 Ti.

I considered switching to 7700Xt because its cost matches 4060Ti, and it offers slightly improved performance.

7700XT will cost around €450. It is still not widely available.
