You're aware these titles aren't limited to consoles? If you mean both the originals and their remakes, they'll be available on PC within a couple of years.

I felt a bit let down by nier automata; the PC controls were really poor.

What do you mean by this? I don't feel that I killed the thread, I just focused on around 10 games per year for the past decade. I definitely left out dozens of must play games from the past 10 years, especially from this year. And I'm glad to see that people are adding them to this thread. I only came up with 6 from this year because I haven't played many games from this year. Not sure if that's because 2018 hasn't been the greatest year for gaming or the fact that I almost always wait for price drops before obtaining games. $64.00 a pop just isn't within reason for a price for any video game. It's easy to get at least 50% off on new console games within a week of their release but for some reason it's not so easy to do that for PC games.

Looking for alternatives? No Dark Souls, no Overwatch, no Metal Gear Solid 5 TPP? The Division is essential. I’m suggesting Far Cry Primal. Call of Duty: Ghosts is a must. My picks include CoD 4, MW CoD MW2, Nazi Zombies, Minecraft, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Fallout 3, NV GTA V, San Andreas, Cuphead, Furi, Celeste, MGSV: TPP Goldeneye (N64 emulator), Trackmania, TF2, DOOM (2016), AC, Black Flag, Dishonored, Far Cry 3, Absolute Drift (if available), and Civilization 5. Portal 2, HL2, Left 4 Dead, SuperHot, Enter the Gungeon, Titanfall 2. It’s decent but not great.

As Underi mentioned, the focus should be on identifying the top years across all categories. The answer should highlight the best-performing years without personal opinions.

I haven't experienced the original Dark Souls, but I own the remastered edition. It's definitely worth trying if you haven't played it before. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, so I'll add it to the list from 2018. I omitted it for two reasons: first, I haven't played much of it, and second, I prefer Paladins over Overwatch. I think the situation would have been different if Overwatch had been free and Paladins paid. Personally, I enjoy Paladins more because it's free to play and runs smoothly even in high resolution. I haven't completed the whole game yet, but it feels similar to Overwatch. One of the main points I make is that Paladins offers a smooth experience, especially with its free availability. I might have spent more time on Overwatch if it had been free, but right now, I'm still exploring it.

Another factor is the 2015 release timeline. That year was great for gaming overall. I could have skipped Just Cause 3 and played more MGS TPP instead, but I chose JC3. It's possible I'll prefer MGS TPP later, but for now, I'm unsure. You definitely deserve to try it. It pulls you in quickly and keeps you engaged. After about an hour, I'm hooked.

Once you hit around 40 hours, it can feel repetitive, but that's part of the challenge. I'm not sure if others will enjoy it as much, but it's definitely a game worth experiencing. The graphics are impressive, and the PC version has improved significantly from previous issues. I spent about $9 on the PC version after investing 40 hours on Xbox One. I also purchased several DLC packs for a reasonable price, though I might have missed out on others.

I regret not buying more DLC at the time, as it was expensive then. Now prices have dropped, and I think it's worth considering. The game is solid, especially with the PC fix and better performance. I'm keeping an eye on future discounts, like during Christmas.

Far Cry Primal is still relatively new, but it feels more engaging at the start compared to other entries. The early game is captivating, and the soundtrack is a standout. The multiplayer mode with bots is unique—super realistic and fun. It's a solid addition to my list, especially for those who enjoy tactical gameplay.

COD Ghosts is a hidden gem. It's not flashy, but it delivers depth and replayability. The BOTS mode is a highlight, offering a different kind of challenge. Playing with bots lets you explore all game modes and customize your experience. Extinction is a standout feature, and the variety of maps adds to its appeal. The voice acting is top-notch, making it immersive.

The main drawback is the learning curve—it takes time to get comfortable. For some, it might feel like a grind initially, but once you adapt, it becomes rewarding. The killstreaks and unique mechanics are memorable. I also appreciate the skin packs, though I might have missed out on some due to price.

Goldeneye 64 is worth a try on PC via Steam. It evokes fond memories from my N64 days. Overall, these titles are worth adding to your collection if you haven't yet.
