What game should I Play?
For me, great gameplay means the experience feels distinctively personal, enjoyable, smooth or exciting, or simply impressive. Dishonored really stands out with its engaging mechanics throughout. Excellent gameplay can also feel responsive, like in Wolfenstein or Brutal Doom, where gunplay is very precise.
Titanfall 2 for the campaign (EA Origin) is highly recommended. I played it twice during the first weekend. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marines (2011) stands out as something more engaging than flashy titles with smooth movement and quick gameplay. While some games in my list feel a bit sluggish, they often focus on core mechanics. Rainbow Six Siege offers an interesting experience but isn’t as fast-paced. The BIOS is an indie title designed for speedrunning in FPS mode, with rapid progression. I don’t enjoy it because I think the time to eliminate enemies is too long, though that’s personal. The Call of Duty campaigns are impressive; my top picks are Modern Warfare 2, Insurgency, and Day of Infamy, which resemble Counter-Strike in style. Realistic gameplay is appreciated, but it gets you into action quickly. Hotline Miami receives mixed reviews—some praise it while others dislike it. Quake Champions remains available for free, though I’m unsure about its status. The Unreal series includes titles like Unreal Gold, Unreal Tournament, and Unreal Tournament 2004, as well as Turok and Turok 2 (N64 ports). These are decent but not overly flashy. Stalker is a slower-paced experience, mainly involving walking and backtracking.
Dying Light is one of those E3 titles that doesn't get a release date. That makes sense, the gameplay isn't for everyone. Check out some other options that are affordable right now: Vanishing of Ethan Carter (short puzzle-heavy story), Thomas Was Alone (short puzzle, great story), Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons (short adventure, needs controller), Inside (short adventure/platformer with silent story), and Hitman: Absolution (stealth game).
Are you required to take on every role in Borderlands? Which DLCs are essential for a complete experience? I care about both the narrative and gameplay, as story greatly influences my enjoyment. The Arkham series struggled with storytelling, and Batman felt underdeveloped.
Borderlands 2 is the top choice of the year. It’s available from $43 to $10 (Canadian). The price looks great, and it includes all the DLCs. You’ll get two new characters to try. The DLCs are entertaining, and the game holds the record for the most weapons in its universe—17.75 million variations! The developers claim it breaks that record, especially if you include Borderlands 1. There’s a lot happening in the game. To reach the full level, you need to purchase it, and it’s currently discounted at just $1. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is also on sale, though it has less content but more fun. Most elements feel disconnected because you haven’t played Borderlands 2. Many believe it’s more enjoyable, even though it doesn’t make perfect sense. It sells quickly, making the $18 price in Canada a good deal—bought it for $75. Any questions?
First option works well. No settings needed, modern rig handles it. I only played Zeds Zombie Island a little. One person said all are worth it, though Moxxxie’s Underdome is just a wave defense. I didn’t receive any DLC for Borderlands 2.
