I own both versions. My time in ME is 23 hours while in Rust it's 133. They're quite different experiences. I'd recommend Rust only if you know others who play it, and ME if you prefer a solo game.

Middle Earth is absolutely worthwhile, offers solid gameplay, stunning visuals (look at those nice grass textures) and performs smoothly even on my old FX-6350.
