What effects does altering RAM speed and latency have?
So I’m just starting out with RAM and overclocking. In my latest setup I have a 9800x3d, Corsair Vengeance 6400mhz cl32, and X870E Aorus Elite. I understand the ideal speed range for AMD 7000 and 9000 chips is usually around 6000cl30, but if I can achieve a 1:1 MLCK ratio (I think FCLK:2133.33, MLCK:3200, ULCK:3200), it would be even better. But I’ve heard it might depend on things like the quality of the silicon in my chips. If that’s the case, it could affect whether 6400 at 1:1 is possible. If I can’t get it to run at 6400 at 1:1, how should I adjust my RAM? Should I just set the speed to 6000mhz in Expo and tweak some CL30 timings, or would I need to do more complex tests? Also, do I need third-party tools for changing MLCK, ULCK, and FLCK, or can I manage everything through the BIOS? What timing recommendations should I follow if I decide to run at 3000cl? Sending love to someone who can help me <3. This forum always surprises me, unlike others.
Share a link if you're working with it. There are several key points about overclocking to grasp, right? Adjusting the timings on your RAM is considered overclocking. You may need to increase the voltage to achieve stability with tighter timings, which will lower your frequency. Your memory controller might not handle these changes well, but you'll only find out after testing. This process relates to the silicon inside the ICs. You might have seen Corsair's Dominator series RAM kits—they are carefully selected ICs from a strict quality control line, allowing adjustments right out of the box. G.Skill RAM kits are more forgiving for overclocking, while Vengeance RAM kits from Corsair are a bit higher in the Value range but still have limited overclocking potential. I believe you're doing well by keeping things stock with E.X.P.O enabled.
