Windows 8.1 has just launched and is available for free through the app store if you already have Windows 8 installed. What are your opinions on this release? Is it an improvement over Windows 8? Do you enjoy it? Is Windows 8.1 just as problematic as Windows 8? Are there still users who prefer the older Windows 7? I’ve noticed it tends to be quite buggy. Also, the metro app setup doesn’t seem to blend well with the standard desktop interface, making it difficult to use. I’m hoping for a more unified experience so that the different interfaces feel consistent rather than conflicting.

Many users are facing issues with version 8.1, so it might be wise to keep Windows 7 on your desktop and Windows 8 with the Start button on your laptop.

Similar to version eight, it would be nice to eliminate the unnecessary start button. Having additional choices for the start screen is helpful. Regrettably, the app I’m developing for entertainment frequently crashes on my desktop, though it functions well on my Surface Pro.

Running winsat on my second-hand Win8 laptop after switching to Win7 was tricky—drivers were hard to find, and it felt like a challenge.
