Hello,
I am having some FPS drops when playing a game (for example League of Legends) while I have another less demanding game open (like Rogue Legacy 2). I am considering upgrading my pc, but I am not sure if I should upgrade CPU or go for a new motherboard + CPU. I wanted to get your advices on that. Here's my system :
Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 7
Intel Core i5 8400
DDR4 16GB Vengeance LPX
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080Ti
Thank you for your help

My method for tackling this ongoing issue:
Certain games rely heavily on graphics capabilities, while others depend mainly on CPU performance. Multiplayer usually favors games with more threads.
You should determine which type suits you best.

this isn't saying much.
what are your typical frame rates and what do you sacrifice?
what resolution, in-game adjustments, and which titles are impacted?
if only one game seems affected, the problem likely lies within that specific title.

with a GTX 1080 Ti and an overclocked i7-8700K, I can run most recent games at higher settings. At 3440x1440p, I usually see around 60-75fps, depending on the game's visual demands.
upgrading your CPU should improve performance in most titles.
however, if you're looking at a new 8th or 9th generation processor, it would be wise to invest in a 12th generation motherboard instead.
it will provide significantly better performance for a longer duration.
consider saving for a more powerful graphics card to match the upgrade.
