I have no compatibility problems. My hardware runs smoothly on Linux, and everything I use and play works well. I changed because I was stuck with dual booting and Windows crashed during an update. I was tired of dealing with that and just removed the drive to go with Linux. I never looked back. The only thing I miss is Discord, particularly streaming and screen sharing in calls, but that’s mainly due to slow Discord developers rather than the platform itself (OBS streaming to YouTube or Twitch works fine).

My interaction with Arch has been smooth as well; I’m currently dual booting with Windows but haven’t needed to switch recently. Your Discord problem seems unexpected since I’ve only faced streaming glitches when both interfaces appear, though I’m confident it can be resolved. What I appreciate about Linux is how most problems are easy to fix or work around.

The official Discord app doesn't support streaming audio and isn't hardware accelerated, which means any stream will likely lag or drop. Recent updates seem to be quite unstable, often causing unexpected crashes and logouts. It probably works fine in the browser, but overall performance is questionable. Good logging would make a big difference.

I changed because the Windows version was too slow and the telemetry was overwhelming, causing the CPU to stay constantly at full capacity. I moved it to Linux, which works well for storage and backup tasks.

ms chose to invest in a different motherboard, adding another $100, and I felt their control over home computing was overblown. After some research, i realized i’d prefer to avoid proprietary programs as much as possible.

I began switching to Linux since I was a teenager and free software was available. Back then, proprietary document and spreadsheet formats caused compatibility problems. Today I simply avoid programs that can't run natively on Linux.

I haven't worked with Windows or MacOS before, so using them doesn’t make much sense for my usual setup.

We were a countryside dweller without a computer until 2006, when a friend who "knew about computers" brought us one he set up with SUSE Linux. At the time, we had no idea what we were doing. If you want more details (this often happens), our closest neighbor was just 10 miles away on a dirt road, and that spot still lacked internet—only satellite or dial-up phone in 2021.
