I remember reading a Microsoft book from the late 80s that highlighted the advantages of maintaining a consistent user interface rather than altering it with each update.

Over the last ten years, Microsoft and software updates have mostly focused on rearranging menus and altering visuals. It's become common to notice things becoming more difficult to locate or harder to use. I haven't seen real progress in hardware performance or software functionality beyond speed improvements. The build quality, ease of use, and overall usability have either declined or remained unchanged at best.
