What can be done to resolve the sudden decrease in FPS?
Hey everyone.
This is my initial post here, so I’m wondering if I’m in the wrong category. But a few days ago I went offline to tackle some real-world tasks. When I came back, the game I was playing (Rust) crashed. Trying to restart through Steam showed an error about boot start or something similar. I fixed it by just restarting my PC. Since then, my FPS in any game, including Rust, has dropped from about 100-110 to around 9-15.
I shared this on Reddit, and someone suggested checking system logs around the crash time. They mentioned the server didn’t register with DCOM, but that seemed normal for my friend’s setup. I was advised to download chipset drivers from the manufacturer’s site, which I did but didn’t notice any changes. I also opened the admin panel to search for corrupted files and found a few that were quickly fixed. Then I was told to perform a clean reinstall of my video drivers—what I did, but nothing changed. My last option was scanning for malware or viruses, and fortunately, my computer came up clean.
The only possibility I’m thinking of is some files from a mobile app I downloaded that I can’t delete. My friend used the same app, and his PC worked fine. Any tips would be really helpful. I hope this thread makes sense, as I’m still new to PCs and not sure what’s going on.

I mean . . . it's clear without any doubt that this occurred in my eyes is that the GPU you're using is the IG from the CPU, which would significantly impact visual feedback from your system. That's all I can think of. Just get a GPU and that should be enough lol........................
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's important to provide your complete system details. Please list the specifications as follows:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU, along with its make and model. Also, note the BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
You may consider using DDU to remove all GPU drivers (AMD, Nvidia, Intel) from your system, then reinstall the latest driver from Intel's support site. Install it through an elevated command—right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.
Did the problem appear after an OS update? You might want to open Task Manager and check resource usage to see if they're unusually high.
I applied DDU and reinstalled the driver, but the problem continues.
Perhaps, but my computer was handling 100 frames per second in most games before dropping to 10. Uncertain.
