What aspect should be prioritized for an upgrade in your Build?
Here is the list of my build.
CPU - Ryzen 5 3600X
GPU - RTX 3060 Ti
MOBO - MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
RAM - 32Gb 4x8 3200MHz
Storage - I’m fine there, I know that.
I’m struggling to decide whether to upgrade my CPU or GPU. I don’t want to replace my motherboard, and I think a BIOS update could help me cap out my CPU for AM4 if I move to the Ryzen 7 5800X. Still, I feel my CPU is decent, and it’s my GPU that needs updating. I’m considering switching to the 4070 Super because the slight boost of 10% and the $200 cost seem reasonable for me. Also, since I live in Canada, I wanted your advice.

4070 Super offers significant performance gains over a 3060Ti, with roughly half as many cores and a higher clock speed of around 500Mhz. The decision really depends on your gaming needs. For demanding visuals, prioritize the GPU; for CPU-intensive games or to achieve top frame rates, opt for the CPU.
I think a 5700x would make a good improvement, especially for boosting your min FPS. If we're using 1080p, your GPU remains quite capable.
Hi, thank you for your reply. I'm using an Ultra Wide monitor with a resolution of 2560x1080, which keeps gaming at 1080p. At this point, I think upgrading the CPU would be more beneficial. I'm interested in knowing what the 4070 Super offers, but considering it's a significant investment compared to the CPU upgrade.
It varies based on the game you're playing. You can expect a 25-50% boost in average FPS, as noted in Tom's review. (The 3060Ti and 4060Ti perform similarly.) Using advanced features like ray tracing or DLSS will yield even better gains. CPU can help with frame rates and minimum FPS, but if your GPU is the bottleneck in most games, improvements may be minimal. (Refer to the MS Flight Simulator chart—most scores above a certain threshold remain consistent)
The forty series offers notably quicker ray tracing and DLSS features, making it a solid justification for an upgrade if you wish to take advantage of them. This is the main factor that distinguishes Nvidia from alternatives like the 7900XT. If you aren’t planning to use ray-tracing, you can still choose FSR on Nvidia or AMD for upscaling purposes.
A faster card might even remove the necessity for upscaling altogether. However, it’s wise to begin by checking benchmarks for the games you’re playing—especially those built with the same engine as your current titles. Not everyone runs at 1080p ultrawide, so you may need to adjust based on your current performance and apply that to a review. This won’t be exact, but it will give a more accurate estimate.
