My uncle plans to purchase a specific laptop:

HP Pavilion 16" Touchscreen Laptop - Intel Core 7 Processor 150U - WUXGA (1920 x 1200) - Windows 11
It will serve both himself and his son, with two different purposes:
* Uncle: MS Office, Adobe Reader PDF, Skype, Web Browser, Spotify, VLC
* Cousin: Same as uncle, focusing on programming languages like Java, .NET, PHP, MySQL, and using VirtualBox for Linux
Could you please share your opinion on whether this laptop would be a good investment? It’s all about the hardware. He hopes it will function properly for at least five years. His cousin is likely to study computer science, making this purchase very relevant.
My uncle is worried about possible issues with the device because the price range is not typical in the USA—around $1000 to $1500.

Nothing significantly wrong with that choice.
32GB RAM, 1TB SSD.
The processor isn't the best, but it should handle the budget.

When compared to a 13th gen i7, the performance is similar with only minor differences.
It matches a 12th Gen i3 in terms of single-threaded speed.

Ah, I see what you mean - it does look too cheap to be true. However, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the brand nor its hardware components.
The CPU is a high-end notebook CPU which is vastly more than fast enough for your listed requirements.
RAM and the type of drive are just as important for system performance and responsiveness. 32GB of RAM is an astonishingly high amount for that price and the drive is fast.
I think that your uncle should buy it before it sells out.
