I believe it’s settled, between you and Colif below, Grim Dawn is worth the investment. I noticed some UI improvements yesterday or the day before, plus a GrimTex for better and more efficient textures.
I really wanted to Play D4 but now I won’t pay for games without a guaranteed server shutdown date and a patch that allows offline play, even if it’s a big deal.
They really messed up this situation and upset its player base with D-Mobile (given the countless transactions) and then this online-only approach for something that doesn’t need to be online, followed by server problems, etc.
Alright, done with that rant, but anyway as mentioned before, I think you both have convinced me about Grim Dawn. It seems like what I’m looking for.
Diablo Immoral was a poor experience.
It’s simple to play Diablo 4 solo, especially on the non-season server, with almost no players around—really a weak concept. If there had been an offline option, I wouldn’t have invested in a season. I only played as the game transitioned from a bustling community to a desert after the first season ended.
The game doesn’t offer a proper endgame. There’s nothing engaging to do... just endless dungeons and repetition.
They also removed items, making everything feel ordinary.
Inventory management is another major issue—there’s no personal inventory space. Players are limited to a stash that only fits 10 characters, which seems unrealistic. It’s clear they never played more than one class. When I couldn’t expand my bank, I was stuck. You can’t buy extra bank slots once you hit a limit.
Last Epoch provides three distinct endgame scenarios, but they don’t follow the main storyline—so it feels odd. However, it offers better inventory space compared to Diablo 4: you can purchase up to 100 bank slots in-game using currency.
All DLC expansions will be free.
Grim Dawn includes expansion areas; locate the first one after chapter 1. It’s your choice whether to explore or stick to the main story. I found it made the base game more accessible, as Diablo 4 lacks variety. Significant jumps in item levels occur between stages, and expansions help smooth the experience.
i haven't been playing much isometrics lately but still have a few installed and waiting for me to come back.
Wasteland 2 & 3,
Pillars of Eternity 2 & 3,
Diablo II: Resurrected(updated to modern standards)
not sure about controller support for any of them though.
Grim Dawn was an awesome game. Got most of the way through when it first came out and it was very fun.
Now they've updated it quite a bit in every way and when i played through a little late last year it is even better.
I checked it, but turn-based games aren't really my style. Still, I've heard some positive things about it.
It appears Controller on D2R works well depending on the controller model, with Xbox being the most suitable option. I didn't consider it before since it's not a new title. This experience sparked my interest in this genre, as I played it until the jungle music became overwhelming. After that, I spent years searching for similar games. I mostly enjoy single-character perspectives in games; team-based ones can be confusing. That was based on my experience with Baldur's Gate 1 when it first launched. Otherwise, I would have chosen Borderlands 3 last year.
What I've heard a lot about in the past, OG Diablo fans disliked D3 since it didn't match the style of the earlier versions for the reasons I appreciate D3. Unfortunately, I don't think this will work.
I never played Diablo 1. I’ve only played all the others except Immoral, and honestly, none of them feel alike. Each one was developed by a different team, which makes it tough to satisfy everyone.
I haven’t played 3 in years, but I did try on three platforms (PS3, PS4, and PC). I don’t remember why I stopped.
Releasing it with an AH felt like a mistake. It turned the game into a shopping experience until they realized their mistake.
Diablo 4 is the one I played the least so far. Maybe I should check for an expansion if it’s not too expensive, since rumors suggested it could be around $100. Actually, there’s already a $65 USD item in the game...
For me, Diablo is about gathering items and crafting the best character. Diablo 4 breaks that system. Everything feels generic now.
It seems they don’t fully grasp what the game is meant to do.
