I wasn't particularly forward-thinking when it came to gaming setups, likely because I always managed to handle most demanding graphics titles on the console.
However, after Dune Awakening launched, I started questioning whether my builds were actually worth it. The performance is decent, but many YouTubers with a GeForce GTX 1650 are reporting smooth gameplay.
I prefer not to discard my system, so I'm looking for ways to improve the weakest part. Anyone notice which component might be holding things back?
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core i7 9700 @ 3.00GHz (66 °C)
Chipset: Coffee Lake 14nm Technology
Memory: 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1200MHz (17-17-17-39)
GPU: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. H310M S2H 2.0 (U3E1) @ 17 °C
VRM: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (MSI) @ 46 °C
Power Supply: PSU LC Power LC600H-12 V2.31 ATX (600 Watt)
Case: The most affordable option I found, no details on the manufacturer
Storage:
- 931GB Seagate ST1000DM010-2EP102 (SATA) @ 41 °C
- 111GB Western Digital WDC WDS120G2G0A-00JH30 (SSD) @ 43 °C

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

111GB Western Digital WDC WDS120G2G0A-00JH30 (SATA (SSD)) 43 °C
Please note the make, model, and age of your power supply unit as well as the case.
I realized my build is not up to standard.
Yes, the setup needs improvement. Your configuration isn’t optimal. If you attempt fixes, you might end up rebuilding from scratch, possibly using outdated components.

I prefer upgrading the weakest part rather than discarding the whole machine. Can anyone identify which component could be the issue?
If I were to assemble a system with that i7-9700, I’d choose a Z370 chipset, paired with fast dual-channel DDR4-3200MHz RAM, and a GTX1660 Super.
You may want to try reinstalling your GPU drivers using DDU in Safe Mode, removing all existing drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia), then installing the latest one from Nvidia’s support site via an elevated command—Right click installer > Run as Administrator.

Thanks, I updated the PSU which is a PSU LC Power LC600H-12 V2.31 ATX Power Supply 600 Watt.
I’m not sure what the case is for, just picked up a budget one.
Do you think the motherboard could be the weakest point here? Are there options to upgrade the CPU and GPU in the future that fit the current hardware?
Regarding drivers, because of NVidia’s software issues, I’ve reinstalled clean drivers and tried various game-ready ones and all available versions. Specific GPU settings in-game and in NVidia can greatly affect performance in Dune, sometimes making it completely unplayable or only barely playable.

Just because someone shares a video of a game running on a weak GPU doesn't necessarily mean it was set up from scratch. Even without making any changes, simply adjusting the resolution and game settings can significantly impact how the game runs. Additionally, using a more powerful card while tricking the software to display a weaker version can also make a big difference. So I believe the best approach is either to tweak the game itself or upgrade to a better GPU. Once that's done, you can proceed further. (And don't forget, reinstalling drivers can still be useful in certain cases.) This advice isn't meant to downplay it, but rather to encourage testing and understanding the risks before making changes.

Hey there,
There are several issues I'm facing.
Slow RAM performance.
Weak GPU for the game.
Your power supply is failing.
For smoother gaming, consider these specs:
Dune: Awakening recommended system requirements
OS:
Windows 10 64-bit or newer
CPU:
Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
RAM:
16 GB
GPU:
NVIDIA RTX 3070 (8 GB) / AMD 6700XT (12 GB)
DirectX Version:
12
Storage:
75 GB (SSD required)
Network:
Broadband internet connection
Your system isn't fast enough.
Even with a decent CPU, you should upgrade the motherboard, RAM, CPU, GPU, and PSU.
