What are the specifications for RAM speeds?
Hey everyone, just wrapped up setting up my first PC. The specs are a Ryzen 3600, Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super OC, and a 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM (8GB+8GB). Following Linus's guide, I upgraded the RAM to 3200MHz with a 1.34V voltage and set the infinity fabric clock to 1600MHz. After tweaking the timings until the system wouldn’t boot, everything seems to be working smoothly. I’m still testing games but everything is running okay. My main concern is whether these low timings really affect raw FPS numbers. I’m also wondering if pushing the infinity fabric clock higher could help gaming performance. Any advice would be great! Thanks.
Here are some memory benchmark tools to consider: AIDA64, memtest86, and others like MemTest86+ and CacheGrind. Keep testing and updating!
I recommend RAM Test from Karhu Software. But that one is a paid SW, the advantage is that it is completely multithreaded and tests the RAM very very fast. Yeah, Memtest86 is a good free alternative but is a LOT slower. Then there is Memtest Pro which is also paid software I think its about $5, its still slower than RAM Test but also a bit cheaper. Anyways, you want to have 0 errors. Chances are, your OC will spit errors right away.
starting up isn't tough enough to check if it runs smoothly. Using software that others have shared helps confirm stability. Slow loading times usually don’t noticeably impact frame rate unless the game is extremely demanding on the CPU. Faster performance is better only when it works consistently for you. I haven’t tested whether you should increase your clock speed beyond half of your RAM’s capacity if it’s slow—maybe look into that.
