What are the requirements for upgrading a PSU in a Dell Optiplex?
hello to anyone interested! just joined because i cant find the answer i needed.
So i got this
Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF
for free and I'm trying to upgrade its PSU.
I've tried a 800w PSU and the PC stays black screened and not booting.
Then i tried to use the PSU from my HP Omen 870-244 but had same issue, but when I use the Dell's stock PSU it works fine again.
Is there a specific type of PSU I've got to buy? I'm looking for a 500w PSU, so if you guys know one that'll work let me know thanks!!

Is this what you need to work with?
I've used an 800w PSU before.
What is your PSU's make and model, and how old is it?
you want to upgrade the psu because it needs improvement for better performance and reliability.
It's strange, my setup looks different after checking it online. It seems to be an Optiplex 7010 MT DT model. The PSU link is around a year old, and the other power supply I used was from an HP Omen 870-244. The motherboard and PSU details are provided, but I assumed it was an 800W unit, which turned out not to be correct.
I just want to upgrade it so I can install a GTX 1650 and give the PC to my GFS little brother, because he's been wanting a gaming PC and I thought building a budget one for him would be a good idea.
connect both main cables to the PSU side (18pin plus 10pin).
the opposite side has 20pin plus 4pin connected to the motherboard, and the CPU connector (8pin on PSU side and 4pin plus 4pin) goes into the 4-pin header. the 8pin is divided into two 4-pin connectors; only one fits.
Optiplex's aren't meant for gaming; they're made for office use. That's why expansion options are very limited.
