I'm having trouble figuring out the necessary CPU or GPU for smooth 8k playback. I'm planning to upgrade my PC to ensure it can handle future devices that require 8k video. My current system struggles with 4k, so I don't want to be limited in the future. Would it be possible for your computer to play 8k video without needing a very expensive setup? Some sources suggest a minimum of a 4090 or 3080, except for certain models like Macs and Intel Arc series. Others seem to think it's an easy task. This isn't a perfect situation since we're using YouTube and codecs, but here are some examples you can check:

It's a complex issue because it involves more than just the 8K resolution—it also depends on the frame rate, such as 24, 25, 30, or 60 frames per second. The device output matters too, whether it's DisplayPort or HDMI. Some devices can handle larger frame sizes and higher frame rates with DisplayPort 1.4 compared to HDMI 2.1b. Therefore, evaluations often focus on Gbps speed output. For future compatibility, bit depth will likely increase as video transitions from 8-bit to 10-bit to 12-bit, though we still have limited understanding of this shift.
