You already possess a spare Ryzen 3950X CPU and an older video editing workstation that requires an upgrade. The only components needing replacement are the motherboard and RAM; the workstation will keep its existing RTX 3090, 850W PSU, storage drives, case, NH-D15 cooler, etc. The main challenge lies in finding high-end AM4 motherboards, as many desirable options like the Asus Pro Creator series are currently out of stock, and even when available, locating QVL-rated 128GB RAM kits at first-party retailers in the USA is extremely difficult.

For this system to operate continuously under heavy workloads, I believe it would be best to opt for a motherboard with the X570S chipset (the passive cooling version); opinions on this? Not that I oppose B550, but considering we plan for 128GB RAM (four 32GB DIMMs) and need sustained high performance, this combination seems optimal.

I searched PC Part Picker for X570S motherboards with Wi-Fi only and found around a dozen results;
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/mother...=9000,8000
(Note: Other passively cooled models like the Asus Dark Hero are not listed.)

I’ve spent considerable time reviewing available boards to locate QVL 128GB kits that are still in stock, but progress has been slow. Any recommendations?

Just a spare
The QVLs aren't a complete list—they're just what's been tested. I haven't encountered any issues with Corsair Vengeance RAM on Ryzen, especially if you're using 128GB; you wouldn't want to go for something too fast. Probably around 3000Mhz would be fine. The official recommendation is 2933 for four DIMMs, but some people have used higher speeds. A 3600Mhz model isn't recommended.
B550s can handle 128GB, so I wouldn't rule them out unless you need extra space beyond X570. If you're concerned about compatibility, just opt for a seller with good return policies, like Amazon.

You have the flexibility to choose non-kit DDR4 options. Sticks sold separately often come with timing that is sufficient for larger configurations.
