What are my thoughts on overclocking and selecting a CPU for my next build?
I plan to purchase my PC parts this Black Friday and aim to obtain an i5-6600K with overclocking (using a Hyper 212x CPU fan). The main concern is whether the CPU price during the sale would require a different model if it exceeds my budget. If I can afford the i5-6500, should I choose it? Can I perform the overclocking? And if my budget only allows for an i3, is it worth the difference between the 6300 and the 6100 when overclocking? Thanks for reading.
In theory, you can modify some non-K CPUs. But if you truly wish to optimize, then opt for a K. Which i3-6100 versus i3-6300? If funds permit, consider the 63000. Still, you cannot select the CPU alone. What about the remaining theoretical aspects? What is the total budget?

For example, don't undercut the PSU by choosing a 6300 instead of a 6100.

Nevertheless...you can't pick a CPU alone.

I plan to use an AsRock fatality z170 gaming k4 board. A 500W PSU from Corsair, though higher wattage might be available depending on availability. I'll use an AsRock spec alpha case. 1 Tb SATA III 7,200RPM hard drive and 8GB DDR4 2400 RAM. My target is spending up to around 170 on the CPU.
