You're definitely capable. Essentially, everything that exists for PCI-e was once in a previous version for PCI. Remember, PCI is restricted to 133Mb/s, so it's usually smarter to use a PCIe port with a Wi-Fi card or a USB 2.0 or higher port for a Wi-Fi stick.
