With the 240 Million PCs expected to become obsolete, what are the top options for buying one? I recently set up MX Linux on an old laptop and it performed excellently. I believe sharing this information could help others discover hardware that functions well on Linux and reduce electronic waste.

Numerous applications perform exceptionally well in the market. Without relying on Windows support, many individuals and organizations are likely to abandon these tools due to their familiarity with Windows as an operating system.

I question most will simply be discarded due to the waning W10 support since W11 was released. A bigger factor might be that outdated PCs would fail or become obsolete for important tasks. Desktop models are safer because they can be upgraded, though this isn’t a widespread trend for portable devices that are nearly impossible to repair or upgrade. The recycling issue predates the IT age. Appliances, cars, and even EV batteries pose greater threats than computers. Only nuclear waste will become a more significant concern.
