I used to enjoy NBA and hang out with friends playing it on PS1 and 2K on PS2. Recently, we reunited and saw NBA 2K on Steam for years without much interest. The reviews I read mostly said the game feels almost identical to the previous one. For someone who hasn’t owned a 2K game in years or won’t buy new ones, is this a good experience? I’m not sure about online play, but I’d probably prefer playing offline instead.
I don't play any sports titles but what I gleamed from Youtubers like Angry Joe and others is that 2k is indeed at best a recycled game but now with loot boxes and microtransactions. There is also a decent chance of removed/simplified features compared to previous titles. If this is going to be a one off purchase I would at least wait for a decent sale in case you don't find the game to your liking.
You haven't spent much time on NBA2K yet, but you'll quickly appreciate its visuals. The music is also excellent. I've been playing since NBA2K18, so the changes over time are minimal. For a great experience with friends, consider buying NBA2K21 or 22—it looks nearly identical in graphics. The shooting mechanics are different, so check out the YouTube tutorials. I favor the system from NBA2K22; it's impressive and really engaging. It can be tough depending on your settings. Overall, NBA2K21 is likely affordable now, and a recent 22nd version is also reasonably priced. The choice depends on you. Have fun!
