MSI SUPRIM Air shows clear coil whine during cursor movement.
MSI SUPRIM Liquid offers no coil whine when the cursor moves, but under load it matches the air version’s issues. Concerns remain about pump durability and overall reliability.
Gigabyte AORUS Air produces louder cooling, higher temperatures than SUPRIM, and its coil whine is similarly problematic.
Gigabyte AORUS Xtreme Waterforce AIO delivers minimal coil whine, though I’m still concerned about its long-term performance.
I haven’t looked at the ASUS Astral, but I’m sure it will also generate coil whine.
What should I choose?
Considering an AIO card seems appealing—Xtreme Waterforce has a 4-year warranty, while SUPRIM Liquid has a 3-year warranty. Is the lifespan really worth the concern?
I’d opt for a quality headset or a more energy-efficient GPU. Components such as the 5090 usually have some coil whine and a noticeable cooler. Perhaps a case with plenty of padding would work well. I’m currently using a silent base 802, which performs adequately in that area.
There seems to be an issue with your PSU or a mix of hardware components, or perhaps you're unlucky. I’ve experienced Astral, Suprim SOC, and now FE. The performance has varied depending on frame rate, application, and game. My MSi RTX 5090 Suprim SOC shows 1.5 - 2.5/10, which is the quietest card I've had recently. For the RTX 5090 FE, my unit is fairly quiet, sitting between Astral and Suprim SOC, but the fan noise is still quite high—even louder than Astral. Avoid using AiO cards as they produce excessive pump noise; they should only be installed in a single configuration for optimal silence. The video I captured was from an RTX 4090 Matrix, which performed poorly. I’ve tried all AiO models from the 4090 line but none from the 5090 series, and I’m not sure if this issue has been resolved.
Consider reducing the voltage slightly. It might let you keep the same performance while cutting down the noise or eliminating it entirely.
Hey, I’ve owned two Gigabyte Xtreme Waterforce RTX 5090s, and both had quality concerns — the shroud would sometimes detach in horizontal position. Is it really that bad from Gigabyte’s side? On the positive side, the coil whine was low. The MSI SUPRIM Liquid, however, stands out with solid build, stable temps, and no thermal gel, though its coil whine is terrible. I’m unsure: should I try the SUPRIM again for quieter performance or stick with the Xtreme Waterforce despite the flaws? Any guidance on choosing between them?
