Upgrading to Windows 10 typically preserves all your existing data across drives. You may need to create a new partition but retain the old Windows installation, so nothing is completely erased. Reinstalling isn’t usually required if you’re replacing the OS.

Upgrading means you won’t have to create a new partition, and your files stay safe. A fresh installation will erase everything you had before.
