VLC and Handbrake are popular options. Other choices exist too, but these are the most recognized. In a web browser such as Firefox, this is possible. Netflix isn’t built for Linux natively, which means no dedicated app available.

It comes in a box, and for Ubuntu it usually uses GNOME 3, which feels a bit like macOS

Consider the available space carefully. With a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, you have room for more storage. Since you prefer not to use the HDD much, leave enough space on the SSD for your needs—aim for at least a few gigabytes of free space to avoid slowing things down.

Suggest starting with a live test. The USB drive already contains the ISO, you can experiment with OSS, and once ready, proceed with installation.

Consider this simple plan. Save the Ubuntu OS onto a USB stick, then start from that stick instead of downloading directly to it. After that, transfer the installation files to another medium like a hard drive. This way you avoid extra steps and save time.
