You’re facing a common dilemma when setting up a PC for hosting. Since you’re the only one who can run a LAN server, consider backing up your game progress before making any changes. You could use external storage like an external hard drive or cloud services to save your world and achievements. This way, you won’t lose everything if you decide to reset later.

Java version or Bedrock? When using Java, saves are typically kept in %appdata%\.minecraft by default. If not, check your launcher settings for the correct location. A simple trick is to navigate to the resource packs menu and click "open resource pack folder," which directs you to the folder associated with the Minecraft instance you're running.

Java version available. However, after fully formatting and deleting all data from my drives, I won’t be able to access saved files, right? Since I’ve completely wiped everything and performed a fresh install on Windows. What should I do?

Create a backup of your Java application on another USB storage device, then reinstall it once everything is set up.

It's also important to take regular server backups, preferably right after changes to settings or weekly. This makes recovery easier after issues and protects against data loss from crashes or corruption in Minecraft.

He refers to launching a LAN server, which strongly suggests a local multiplayer setup rather than a broader online service. Even my standard 'hosting from home' note seems out of place now.

Make sure to save the file first, or you'll lose it
