Welche VR-Brille soll ich kaufen?
Hello, I'm considering purchasing a VR headset for playing graphically demanding games like Alyx. I need to decide which one fits a 1 K budget. Here are the specs: ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING, Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming OC with 6GB RAM, i5-9600KF at 3.7GHz (overclocking is easy), two 6GB RAM units at 2666Hz and 2400Hz, and a 650W Gold Chiftec Photon.
You can purchase any headset for listening, but streaming will be challenging. Your CPU won’t handle it well, so you’ll need to rely on your GPU’s encoder. If you’re looking to save money, a Rift is a good option.
Reconsidering Jaslion's advice, the best option for streaming might be switching to a CPU—possibly a Ryzen—to let you use it directly instead of relying on GPU. A Rift S could also work well if you prioritize quality. Just make sure your setup is compatible with your current hardware.
Well, with the budget in hand I’d definitely suggest the Valve Index, but it’s wise to run the "Index Ready Benchmark" just to verify. Also keep in mind that lighthouses require powering and configuring them, which can be tricky—personally I’m more comfortable with my Oculus Rift S, which offers inside-out tracking that functions perfectly (no lighthouse needed). Its software anticipates hand movements even when the controller is out of view, maintaining accuracy. This helped me successfully position objects behind me about 80% of the time. In short, for the top VR experience go with the Index; if you prioritize value and a lighthouse-free setup while accepting slightly lower display quality, the Rift S is the better choice.
