Hello! I'm experiencing some unusual problems with my PC. It began about a month ago after updating to the latest BIOS. Here are my details:

- Processor: Ryzen 3800X (the one that caused the issue), 1600x, and a new 5600X for testing
- Graphics card: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 AORUS MASTER 8G 2.0
- RAM: Patriot Viper Steel 32GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Dual Channel
- Power supply: Super Flower Leadex, 80+ Silver, 650W
- BIOS version changed from F52e to F52g

The problem started after the BIOS update. During the installation, everything worked fine, but after reboot, the PC would power cycle repeatedly. It would turn on briefly, stay off for a few seconds, then restart. There were four LEDs on the motherboard indicating CPU activity until a brief flash of DRAM light appeared before shutdown. I could boot again after removing one RAM stick, but adding it back caused the loop once more (no beep). The dimming lights didn’t break completely, though they couldn’t all turn on simultaneously.

I tried resetting CMOS multiple times without success. I documented the combinations I tested (some lines are not officially supported). Eventually, I rolled back to the previous BIOS version, but it didn’t fix the issue. I tried different CPUs—Ryzen 1600X and 5600X both worked—but only in dual-channel with XMP enabled.

After some troubleshooting, I reported the 3800X for return, but decided to stick with the 5600X since it performed better in a program. Recently, I noticed BIOS settings reset every time I power cycle the PSU, suggesting possible motherboard issues. The voltage reading was stable at 3.3V, so the battery seems intact.

The system RTC doesn’t update the date/time, which might explain the reset behavior. The CMOS header isn’t damaged, so it shouldn’t reset automatically. It’s possible the motherboard itself is faulty and affected this CPU. Since I received a replacement, I’m not sure if it was defective.

Given that the system still functions (just with BIOS-related quirks), I’m considering waiting a few years before upgrading. If you have more details or screenshots from CPUz, feel free to share!

In addition to swapping the CMOS battery or motherboard, there aren't many other options left since you've already tried most possibilities. However, it indicates you shouldn't update the BIOS unless absolutely necessary. Edit: Did you revert to which BIOS version? Was it the latest working one or an earlier release? It seems this might be my final update before not updating the BIOS unless it addresses a specific bug or security fix. I’m surprised there aren’t more discussions about this, suggesting it’s likely an uncommon problem I just encountered. I’ll attempt to install a new CR2032 battery, though I doubt it will solve anything. Right now I’ve saved a snapshot of the BIOS configuration on one partition and reload it each time I need to.

The version before the one you installed was the working one. I also tried F40, but it only functioned in single-channel mode with the 3800x. After testing the 5600x, I had to switch to F52g because that was the only compatible release (despite what the CPU list suggested). They also apparently added Vermeer support twice—only the more recent one is correct.

Likely due to the particular setup. It seems this isn't a widely used motherboard, so many won't choose one for a 3800X.
