That appears to be a laptop with dual connectivity options. The design suggests it can accommodate both RJ11/12 and RJ45 ports, with the port positioned to accommodate a RJ45 connection.

It depends on the size and compatibility of the lan. The model you mentioned is Lenovo Mckn6p4k.

It's a typical RJ45 port, only a smaller version. Lower the switch, insert your cable.

It functions similarly to a human jaw. When you place the regular connector, the lower section slides open like a mouth opening. For more details on the mechanics, pornhub offers video guides.

To achieve even thinner laptops, the usual RJ-45 port thickness turned into a limitation. Companies solved this by designing the port to shrink when unused and expand fully when needed. Simply pull down the bottom tab—it returns to its standard network port shape.

There is a button on your work Dell. You can press it by moving the tab side of the cable during installation.

Another issue... those cables can be tricky to take out. I often press on the connector and gently shift the part down with my other hand to free the cable. It’s nice to be thankful. Manufacturers are now fully removing them, and they’re charging more for an adapter that changes from USB-C/Thunderbolt to RJ45.
