Hello everyone, I'm experiencing problems with my Ethernet-connected desktop. The internet connection suddenly drops for a brief moment before returning. During these interruptions, I see frozen screens during video calls and sometimes the status shows "internet connection unstable." Other times it works fine. It doesn't seem to be limited to Zoom; the whole connection fails. In the lower corner, an icon changes to a globe or disconnects, and a location icon appears—likely indicating a disconnected connection as well. This issue has been occurring for a few weeks now, and I haven't made any changes to my setup. I've tried using a different Ethernet cable and tested with both Intel LAN and Killer NIC, but nothing resolved the problem. It might be related to the cable modem. My specs are: Windows 10 Pro 20H2, Ethernet controller Killer e2500 (latest drivers installed), and an unplugged Intel I219-V (driver upgrade not possible, intel error reported). In Task Manager and Event Viewer, the drop error is logged, but no further details were found. Could you have any insights into what might be causing this?
What model of your modem or router do you have? What type of internet connection are you using? Killer often includes optimization tools in their network cards. Are you using the most recent drivers and the Killer Control Center? Verify the priority settings for various applications—video calls might be low priority. You may need to adjust them accordingly.
Used Spectrum cable with a Ubee DVW32CB modem/router combo. I contacted Spectrum a week ago but they couldn’t locate anything, even after resetting the modem through their admin system. At first I assumed it was a Zoom problem, but now I realize it’s unrelated to Zoom. I’m wondering if anyone here thinks my PC hardware might be the cause. It could be the modem itself, though I’m not sure how exactly. I attempted dual LAN on the motherboard during a Zoom call, but the issues persisted even with Intel and Killer NICs (Gigabyte Z370 Aorus gaming 7). The Killer software is up to date, and Zoom remains the top priority in my app. My speed tests show perfect performance and good ping. I haven’t detected any packet loss during a ping test, though it might be a minor drop over 15 minutes. This isn’t just about Zoom—it’s a general network issue I’m experiencing. I’m also curious if the screenshot you shared indicates a brief network disruption that could affect performance.
