Web browsers consuming excessive CPU power
Web browsers consuming excessive CPU power
Hi there, I noticed you have multiple browsers installed on your PC—Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. When using Chrome, especially in real-time mode, it sometimes runs a background process that consumes a significant portion of your CPU (around 45 to 50%). I checked via Task Manager and confirmed Chrome.exe was active. After uninstalling Chrome, switching to Firefox caused the same behavior. Edge seems unaffected. Could there be malware or a virus forcing these processes?
When you close Chrome, the system tray should display a Chrome icon (next to Wi-Fi and sound icons). Right-clicking it and deselecting the "allow Chrome to run in background" option should resolve the issue. Many extensions can trigger this behavior, so it might also happen with Firefox unless it offers a comparable setting.
I also tried that, but it doesn't solve the issue. Firefox still consumes about 50% of the CPU after closing it, which didn't happen with Chrome before I installed it. After uninstalling Chrome, the problem shifted to Firefox. I manually check Task Manager every time I close a Firefox window just to be sure it's not causing high CPU usage.
Yes, verify the startup section in Task Manager. Ensure Chrome and Firefox are turned off in their settings. Also, look into the advanced options of Chrome’s settings and confirm the relevant toggle is disabled.
