I believed the older WD easystore USB was damaged since my Macbook would "unplug" the adapter turning mac ports into 3.0 USB, causing it to slow or freeze. When connected to a PC, it appeared in the taskbar with an eject option, but it wasn’t visible on the desktop or in Explorer and didn’t affect the system. It seems the drive might be unallocated. Right now you’re using Disk Management—check if it’s recognized there. If not, you may need to format it or repair the partition before using it again.

It depends on the file system type. Both Mac OS and Windows employ distinct storage systems. If a disk is formatted for Mac OS, it won't be readable on Windows. Additionally, long-term inactivity can lead to data degradation. I experienced this with one of my mother's old hard drives—data recovery was possible but required effort. I used a Plex server since it was a Linux tool, which made the process more manageable. Formatting would erase all information permanently.

Didn't realize you were asking that. Once the device is connected, does it start immediately? Can you sense its operation or hear it working?

It starts up smoothly and operates normally. Everything seems standard, though a white light flickers occasionally. The Device Manager confirms everything appears fine. My goal is to use this device to retrieve old videos and files while also storing new data to keep my primary drive free.

The instructions you provided will erase everything permanently, so we need an alternative method to retrieve the files first.

The picture suggests potential issues with the drive, indicating it may be damaged or inaccessible without a straightforward solution.

The picture doesn’t indicate any issues; it mainly explains the file system of the drive. Based on what I see, it seems the hard drive might be failing, similar to the one on my MacBook that stopped working shortly afterward.

It seems there might be some issues with the driver availability. I verified my devices and EasyStore indicated the driver wasn’t found. The product description mentions it’s quite old, and it doesn’t list Windows 11 as supported. It could simply be that compatibility isn’t listed, which might explain why it doesn’t show up.
