Hey there! I was attempting to clean the CPU cooler when a drop of water landed on it from above. It landed near the aluminum dissipator and formed two small droplets on the side of the AM4 socket (photo). The dissipator stayed attached, so no water reached the pins directly. I used a few napkin pieces to soak up the water until it disappeared. I also tried placing it in the space between the socket and the board. There’s a chance if you turn it on, especially if water enters that narrow gap—it could potentially reach the pins.

It should be okay. A lacquer coating is applied over the traces (solder mask) to shield them from air and moisture. If you're very concerned, wait until tomorrow so any leftover water evaporates.

Hold off until tomorrow. The main issue is the tiny space between the socket and the board.

It's allowing components to rest in water that might lead to corrosion or rust on any metal parts. However, because the water only touched the PCB for a short time—with a protective coating on the board and traces—it should be okay.

A small amount of water entering the socket could be an issue. Letting it dry overnight may help, but always check for damage afterward.

Just be careful with the heat—don’t risk melting the socket or connectors. It’s unclear how well the plastic parts withstand such temperatures.
