Watch for instability when it's chilly
I received an Acer Monitor (XZ271) that keeps flickering after about 5-10 minutes of turning it on, depending on room temperature. I've switched the cable and tried a different graphics card, but haven't been able to fix the problem myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It's becoming quite frustrating, especially since it's getting colder and I have to wait ten minutes just to use my computer. Video.mov
I think you're referring to a CCFL backlight. A couple of my old monitors used that type. Keep an eye out, as flickering over time—especially before becoming steady—could indicate the backlight is failing. Some units began acting up 8 to 12 months later, and prolonged instability before consistent brightness is a clear warning sign.
