Disclaimer: It's a mobile Haswell (4th gen) CPU. Right, so I can automatically here you no "no", but hear me out. I have a laptop with an upgradeable CPU socket (G3) which currently houses an i3-4000m, which is a 2c/4t CPU and I feel pretty naff. There exists an i7 CPU which should work in the laptop, as they are sold with this option. For 90$ on eBay, I can get a core i7-4702MQ, specs of which are here: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/...0-ghz.html It's a general purpose laptop, that I had added an SSD and 8 GB DDR3 RAM to, but I feel the CPU is still holding back general performance. Would the upgrade to the i7 be worth the price, or not, in your opinion?

Check your laptop's cooling system to see if it can manage a 4702mq heat output. It seems you're using an i3 4000 series, which is decent for everyday tasks, especially with an SSD and 8GB RAM. The $90 price tag is reasonable, though you'll likely find similar models for half the cost on eBay from that era.

That seems like it could be a good upgrade if you feel you need it.

The current processor draws 37 watts, and the upcoming model matches that power consumption, which is a smart choice. It's the Clevo P151sm1 https://www.avadirect.com/Clevo-P151SM1-...re/8100316 Although it features a GTX 860M with 4GB of graphics memory (upgradable, but more costly options exist)

Opt for the i7 processor and skip the extra GPU upgrade—it’s not worth the investment in an outdated card.
