I recently changed from an Asus Z690 P D4 Wi-Fi board with a 12600k to a b660 Tomahawk Wi-Fi featuring an I7 12700, and upgraded the EVGA 3070ftw3 to a Founders Edition 3070ti. I secured some excellent offers that didn’t cost any money. My build remains intact. Over the past eight years or so, I’ve assembled numerous PCs, mostly using parts from eBay and FB Marketplace. I’ve got extensive experience troubleshooting issues. So far, none of my components have failed completely—even used ones. The closest mishap was a MSI motherboard whose audio stopped working and a RAM stick that booted but didn’t run XMP. Back to my problem: I replaced the board, CPU, and case. I moved my setup from a poor OEM Maingear case to a new Fractal Torrent compact. The CPU is an open box from Microcenter, and the motherboard came from Amazon Warehouse. The RAM is brand new from Best Buy. I usually get my boards from Amazon, which are generally in great condition. I’ve never faced any problems. This one looked used when opened, but no pins were bent and everything seemed normal, so I went ahead. I reused the CPU cooler, RAM, power supply, and SSD—all confirmed to work perfectly. After about an hour, it stopped working entirely. I’ve tried everything: reseating RAM/GPU/CPU/Cooler, rechecking cables (EPS, GPU, ATX 24 pin, PSU), plugging in the display port directly to the board so the GPU wasn’t involved, booting without a bootable USB, testing HDMI, another display cable. The system powers on, keyboard, mouse, fans spin—including GPU fans—and all lights come on. The only issue is the CPU not showing up. I’m concerned either the motherboard CPU socket is damaged (the board does power on), or the CPU itself is bad. Since Intel CPUs don’t have pins that can be bent, this seems unlikely. I’m hoping my luck ran out and I’ve got a defective part. Any advice?

I question how Amazon handles their returned motherboards—likely they accept them, sell them as used, and throw them away again if they come back. It’s not about bad luck; it’s the challenges of buying secondhand parts.

They’re rarely found in regular stores. Usually, I get them packaged tightly from Amazon Warehouse. It’s just a matter of chance.

Frustrating, no response yet. Could need to exchange both items.

Hi, I've faced a similar issue with my B660i Aorus Pro MB running on a 12700 Intel CPU. After turning it on, the fans start but then everything freezes to low speeds and the MB lights up. I'm not sure what to do next.

Your DisplayPort cable is not functioning properly.
